Coming from Gumroad?

Gumroad bundles a storefront, file delivery, and a discovery feed. It pays for all of it by taking a cut of every sale. That cut runs about ten percent and never shrinks. The real question is how much of the bundle you still use.

The bundle you signed up for

Gumroad's promise is that you can start with nothing, not even a website. You upload a file, get a page, and share the link. Their feed might even bring you buyers you never met. For someone with no site and no audience, one signup gives you a storefront, automatic delivery, and a crowd.

When the bundle stops paying

The cut lands near ten percent once the fees settle. It applies to every sale, even the ones your own audience brought. Creators with their own site, list, or following eventually do the math. They are paying a storefront fee on buyers the storefront never sent.

What stays the same

You can still sell files without touching any infrastructure. Attach the file to your product, and when a payment confirms, we deliver it from our side with no bandwidth bill for you. The part of Gumroad people actually loved survives the move.

What the cut was buying

Discovery: gone

Gumroad's feed stays behind, so every buyer now arrives because you brought them. If your audience is already yours, this costs you nothing.

Delivery: kept

Automatic file delivery is a core feature here, not a premium one. We host the file and serve the download the moment payment confirms.

The checkout: upgraded

Buyers check out on your page instead of a hosted store. Pay-what-you-want pricing is built in. Crypto and mail sit in the same picker as cards.

Weigh it honestly

What you gain

  • A flat price instead of a cut: free up to 150 transactions a month, then Pro at $24.
  • Sales on your own page, under your own brand.
  • Pay-what-you-want pricing built in.
  • Payment options Gumroad does not offer: crypto and pay-by-mail.

What you give up

  • The discovery feed and the buyers it recommends.
  • Hosted product pages. Your own site is the storefront now.
  • Built-in email blasts and affiliate tools.

How to make the move

  1. Create a project and connect your own card provider.
  2. Recreate each product, attaching its file for automatic delivery.
  3. Paste a button per product on your site.
  4. Repoint bio links and posts at your page, and test in test mode.
  5. Leave the old store up while past buyers re-download, and retire it when it goes quiet.

Past buyers' download links live in the old system, so a slow wind-down is kinder than a hard cutoff.

A fair case for staying

If Gumroad's feed really does send you buyers, the cut is paying for distribution and may be worth every point. This page is for creators whose audience already belongs to them.
