Transaction fee

A transaction fee is the charge taken out of a sale every time a payment goes through. It's usually a percentage of the price plus a small fixed amount on top.

Someone pays you twenty dollars and about nineteen reaches your account. That missing dollar went to the company that carried your payment from your buyer's bank into yours. The dollar it kept is the transaction fee. Every sale you make gets trimmed the same way before any of the money reaches you. That's why the number in your bank never matches the number on the price tag.

Most fees are two parts added together. One part is a percentage of the price, so it rises and falls with whatever you charge. The other part is a small fixed amount that stays the same on a five dollar sale and a five hundred dollar sale. Together they make up the price of moving your money.

Who charges a transaction fee

The biggest transaction fee comes from the company that actually moves your money. That charge pays for carrying the payment through the banks, checking the money is really there, and putting it into your account. The fee belongs to that company and nobody else can waive it for you.

A second fee can come from anything sitting between your website and that company. A convenience layer bolted on top of your payments is free to charge you again on the very same sale, and sellers miss that second charge all the time. You compare the headline rate, sign up, and only later notice a second cut coming out of the same money.

Why a percentage grows as your sales grow

A percentage is a share of your sale rather than a price, so it moves with you. Sell twice as much and the fee doubles. Have the best month you've ever had and the fee has its best month right along with you. The work behind it never changed, because that payment went through exactly the way it did when you were selling a fraction of what you sell now.

We think that's backwards. A company that keeps a buy button working did the same job in your best month that it did in your slowest one, so it shouldn't get paid more because you got better at your business.

How Coin Moebius is different

We charge a flat fee for our part and we never take a percentage of your sales. Sell for five dollars or five hundred and our number doesn't move.

A flat fee has an honest limit worth saying out loud. The company you connect still charges its own fee for moving the money and we can't waive or refund another company's fee. What we promise is that we never stack a cut of our own on top of it and never hold your money at all. Every sale settles straight into an account you own.

So the only thing standing between your price and your pocket is the company you chose yourself. You bring the payment accounts you already use and paste one buy button onto the page you already have. What you earn stays yours. See how the buy button works or what it costs whenever you're ready.

Get paid without the plumbing

Coin Moebius is the part behind the button, so you do not have to build it.
